April 10, 1971 two twenty-one year old kids, Dottie Louise Winbigler and William Lee Fix were married in San Diego, California. We stood facing each other at the front of the Chapel of Happiness, looking deeply into each other’s eyes. Repeating our vows we were pronounced husband and wife. It is unbelievable to me how quickly fifty-five years can pass. Many of you might be thinking, Dottie must be a saint to put up with you for fifty-five years. Funny, after all these years, I agree with you.
I believe it is a God thing. I prayed for God to bring someone into my life that I could live happily with the rest of my life. I believe God with all of his amazing love has answered my prayer, by bringing Dorothy into my life. Dottie tells a similar tale claiming she has been blessed with her own personal chauffer and chef. We both believe God has blessed us with each other.
It might not be a gift, but it is definitely necessary to have a lengthy marriage. Some things, most things are not worth arguing over or getting upset about.
We attend The Cowboy Church when we are in Florida and we really like it. The folks there are so genuine. The Pastor’s wife greeted us with a big hug, smile and welcome. The service is very informal, the singing is a lot like me singing in the car with the windows rolled up, and the preaching is direct from the Bible. The Pastor asked me to preach one Sunday but I declined because it would have taken me away from my writing assignments. We did attend a catered covered dish and the food was fabulous. Get this, the service is on a few old pews and chairs, in an open air barn with no air conditioning and a mulch dirt floor.
Rick Jewett, my good friend is doing the finishing touches on a children’s book, Softball Sophie. We will be getting that out hopefully mid-August. Former Pastor of Warren Road, David Poweless has written a book on his hitchhiking adventures and I am working with him to get it published hopefull early September. I have written a book about ministering to people given a short time to live. I hope to publish this book sometime before the end of the year.
I am so blessed to have this lengthy vacation with Dottie, my wife. We traveled 1100 miles June 29th to Ocala, Florida, the home of our first daughter. We spent a lot of time together and went on an excursion, on the Gulf of America side of Florida, to see the Manatee (sea cows). I was able to finish and publish the book I had written about Peyton’s life (My granddaughter). She now has a forever family. MeMe and Peyton went swimming several times in our Villages Pool.
We headed for Kansas next, another 1300 miles to visit Lydia, Our Granddaughter, her hubby Taylor and Our two Great Grandchildren Olivia and Luke. We spent a lot of time together and even went to a zoo. Taylor manages a shoestore and Lydia manages at risk youth. She has a very challenging job. I was able to give Olivia the Book I wrote about her and spend some quality time with our great grandkids. Dottie is a natural, I fumble a lot as a grandparent, but she is teaching me. We traveled another 900 miles home to Taylor. With all of our sidetrips we traveled 4100 miles with this vacation and we would do it again in a minute. We had great fun. But we are back and have rejoined all of our family activities back here with our youngest daughter, Lynnette, her hubby Jason and our two grandkids Lucy and Jerod. They took great care of our home while we were gone. Hope to see you all real soon and and I hope you will read some of the books I have published and give me an honest review. Thanks!
